Accessories – A Few Pieces Can Carry Big Weight

You know the saying, “less is more,” well it definitely holds true when adding accessories to your home. A few well-placed pieces can tie a room together and give your space the look of a purposeful design.

When we are talking accessories, it is anything from books, candles, and vases to the framed artwork on the walls. They are the items you place in a room that gives it character and make it look lived in. Accessories will also help define your space and make it feel complete.

Gorgeous table lamps can establish the purpose of a room and help define the space. An art piece with emotional significance can be the focus of an area while bringing a little joy to you. And a well-placed mirror can glam up an otherwise bland space and make it feel larger than it is.

Accessories are more than just an afterthought; they are the icing on the cake, so to speak. Making calculated decisions for your accessory choices is just as important as selecting your couch, dining table, or bed that is going in the space.

You can use your accessories to bring a pop of color to the space. If all of your big pieces are grays and wood tones, picking one accent color and bringing it in through your accessories can give your room a purposefully, decorated feel. Examples of this would be to bring in pillows, throws, random pieces, or artwork that highlight your chosen color.

You can also use an accessory as the focal point in a space. I know it seems like an odd concept and contradictory to the term, but yes, an accessory can be the attention grabber. An example of this is using a large art piece to really grab the eye. Not only will it jazz up a room, it can also serve as a conversation starter.

Do not be afraid to play around with accessories. Odd pieces or random finds can really give character to a space. One thing to really pay attention to, though, DO NOT CLUTTER YOUR SPACE. We have all experienced walking into a room and feeling overwhelmed by all that is going on. You definitely don’t want that to happen. Make sure your placing and grouping of accessories are purposeful.
